Each year, the Academy of Children's Theatre spends
hundreds of hours participating in community events from the Benton
Franklin Fair Parade to Pirates and Princess Day to the Tri-Citis
Family Expo. Outreach is a very important part of the ACT mission-
bringing the creative arts to children and families throughout the
mid-Columbia region.
ACT works with local school districts to provide theater classes for
many area elementary and middle schools, as well as many home school
families through such programs as MCP (Mid Columbia Partnership).
These outreach classes are held at the schools or at the ACT Studio
on Wellsian Way in Richland.
ACT also works with WSU Tri-Cities to provide opportunities for
college students to participate in our classes by observing first
hand how the theatre arts can be integrated into the classroom. In
2008, more than a 30 WSU students took advantage of this opportunity
and helped with a class or production.
Other educational outreach programs include:
Work It Out, a peer lead anti-bullying program for 6th graders
Acting Up with Books, a supliment to the mid-Columbia libraires
One Day Fun Day workshops, with workshops for the Salvation Army &
Kingspoint School
Destination Imagination workshops, team-builing workshops for local
DI teams
ACT can be seen all around town at Barnes & Noble, parades,
libraries and is a part of the summer programs offered by many camps
such as the YMCA, Childrens Garden and the Girl Scouts. Look for ACT
at a community event near you!
